I know, I know, I have been MIA for a few days now, I do apologize. I missed you guys, and I meant to blog every day, like EVERY SINGLE DAY and life happens. Kids are sick, work is crazy, tweeting evening while watching Pressure Cooker, falling asleep on Lightroom, falling asleep at 9.30pm on a Friday night. I am such a party animal :)!
What do you want to hear about first? My simple and yummy gluten-free mini pizza or my crazy fun experience on the show Pressure Cooker?
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw those pictures (and if you don’t, follow me, it’ll be fun!) and if you follow me on Twitter you might have seen my tweets from last Tuesday when it aired.
What is the show about? Pressure Cooker is a cooking competition for home cooks. Grab 5 ingredients in your fridge and make a meal for your family. It sounds easy, challenging and fun and it is! Well, drop the”easy” part. Gosh, it was super stressful. Whomever came up with the name for the show nailed it!
So there, you grad the ingredients on the conveyor belt and you run to your station to cook away for 30 minutes. Along the way, a celebrity chef coaches you, and for me it was Duff Goldman. His role is to help you to create a dish that will impress the intimidating food critic, Giles Coren.
How did I do it? When I send my application for the casting I did not think much of it. Then, I received an invitation to go to the casting call at St Lawrence Market. It was crazy busy and I spoke for 4 minutes with somebody. When I left I told my husband I did not think I said something that would make me stand out.
Apparently, I DID! A week later, I received an email in which I was asked to make a video (in 48 hours) of 5 minutes, 1 minute about me and 4 minutes of me cooking in my kitchen. What?! I don’t know anything about videos… Well, I pulled it off and made a 12 minutes video and worked on editing it. Do you want to see? No, you don’t! 🙂
Again, apparently, my silliness charmed them and here we go for the Pressure Cooker adventure! CRA-ZY and I won’t forget!
Why did I do it? I love a greatchallenge and pushing myself on a show like this attracted me. Also, since the show is about inspiring home cooks to get creative in the kitchen with what you have on hand (I mean it’s a Jamie Oliver Production), I wanted to be in.
My kids are young. However, there is no age to teach them to believe in themselves and dream big. ALWAYS.
I am so thankful for the support of my family and friends (specially a little French in California that kicked me a little when I almost gave up on the video editing). And some sweet words of my 4-year-old as soon as I first appeared on the TV screen in our livingroom ”Je t’aime Maman”. So spontaneous that it touched me deeply. He was surprised that I did not win (too sweet and too biased) but I explained that regardless, I won. I won a wonderful experience and got to cook with Duff Goldman. I had a very special day during the summer.

Now, I certainly did a lengthier post than usual. You know, I wanted to share with you! Would you care for a little bite? You simply deserve it if you made it that far! It’s simple, it’s gluten-free and vegetarian. Wait, it’s also quick enough that it can be a nice little appetizer to accompany a glass of wine for an impromptu gathering of friends.
Do I still need to convince you? Grab that roll of polenta, make some slices, bake it a little, spread some tomato sauce on it, salt, pepper if you wish, some cheese and few more minutes back in the oven and voilà!
Bonus: it’s a great bite size for kids or just grown-ups!
Bonus 2: It can be reheated and still taste great.
- - 1/2 plain polenta in roll (250g)
- - 12 teaspoons of plain tomato sauce
- - 12 tablespoons of grated cheese, cheddar for us
- - Salt
- - Chives, enough to spread some on each pizza
- - Slice the polenta 1/2 of a inch.
- - Place the slices on a baking sheet with parchemin paper.
- - Bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 375F.
- - Take it out of the oven, spread some tomato sauce on each mini pizza.
- - Add some salt and sprinkle some cheese.
- - Put back in the oven 5 minutes at 375F.
- - Serve while hot.
